Following what has been hailed as one of the most memorable America’s Cup races, High Modulus offers its congratulations to Emirates Team New Zealand, who fought hard against the favourites, Alinghi, in a nail-biting 7 race series. Despite their defeat at the very last hurdle, Emirates Team New Zealand, to whom High Modulus is an Official Supplier, were victorious in the Louis Vuitton Cup in June. Proving they had the skills and equipment up to the job, they beat nine other teams to the right to challenge Alinghi for the coveted America’s Cup - and challenge they did. High Modulus provided composite structural engineering services and materials to the team. The boats, NZL 84 and NZL 92, were constructed of carbon prepreg, Nomex honeycomb and epoxy resin - the highest performing composite materials available. The structural engineering team defined how these materials were used throughout the boat and in what quantities, ensuring the boats were structurally sound for the duration of the Louis Vuitton Cup and the America’s Cup races, yet were not over-built. Personnel at High Modulus were also involved with the structural engineering of three other syndicates – an impressive one third of the total number of teams. |
