High Modulus boats wipe the board in the5th Bay of Islands Regatta26th January 2007 Following three days of mixed conditions, High Modulus boats showed their form when they took the top six positions in IRC Division A of the 5th Bay of Islands Regatta in New Zealand this week. 1 Wingz Cookson 50 With all of the Division A fleet measuring between 49-52ft, this regatta was the showdown that people expected, slated by some as the ‘best 50ft racing outside the TP52s’. Outsider and Privateer made their racing debuts, whilst V5, having been launched in 2001, showed that it can still keep pace with the new generation of fifty-somethings. Five High Modders took part in the regatta, with two on the winning boat, Wingz. High Modulus carried out the structural engineering and supplied composite materials for the six boats, with a range of construction methods chosen by the builders: for example, Wingz is made of resin infused carbon and foam core; and Outsider is wetpreg and vacuum consolidated carbon with a Nomex honeycomb core. |
