At 75.2m/247ft, Mirabella V is the world's largest sloop. Launched in November 2003 with the mast stepped six weeks later, she was sailing in the Mediterranean by June 2004. Mirabella V was designed by Ron Holland and built by VT Shipbuilding in the UK, and High Modulus provided the structural engineering for the composite hull and mast. Construction is predominantly female-moulded carbon (for the deck and stiffeners), aramid (in the outside hull skin), and E-glass, over PVC foam cores. |
