This Wally 130, designed by Javier Soto Acebal, is due to be launched in January 2008. The structural engineering brief demanded an ultra light, high stiffness structure, with a strong emphasis on efficiency. To meet the performance objectives, as well as the build method and preferred materials, High Modulus specified high strength and intermediate modulus prepreg carbon fibre, with Nomex honeycomb cores. A few of the more unusual design features which required innovative engineering solutions include: the mainsheet which is fixed to the deck at a single point, over the glazed doorway between the saloon and the terrace; and the elimination of the bulwark framing resulting in a completely clean shell, in line with the minimalist philosophy of the yacht.
